Heavenly Unity
Revelation 7:9-10
“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number,
of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the
throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their
hands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth
upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.”
I’m thankful that my parents raised me not to judge a man by the color of
his skin. From an early age, they taught me that all races are equal in
the sight of God.
Sadly, not all people feel the same as my parents. Some groups want us to
believe certain races are inferior to others. Other groups may not say certain
races are inferior, but they believe the races should be kept separate from
each other. Somehow, I fail to see the difference between thinking certain
races are inferior and wanting the races to be segregated. Either belief
should be rightly called racism.
In heaven, segregation will not exist. People from all races and nationalities
will gather before the throne of Christ to praise his holy name. Black men
and white men joined together in unity. Asians and Native Americans joined
together in unity. Serbs and Croatians joined together in unity. All joined
together in heavenly unity, a heavenly unity based on their common allegiance
to Jesus Christ.
Oh, how I long for the day when multitudes of people will blend their voices
in glorious harmony to praise our God! All hatred will cease. All wars will
end. The clenched fists will give way to hands lifted in praise. In times
past, we saw black men put in bonds by their white masters. In heaven, the
only bonds we will see will be bonds of love.
Do we have to wait to see this heavenly unity? Or can we see a glimpse of
it here on earth? Can we love each other, regardless of race? Can blacks
and whites work together to bring glory to our God? Let us unify our hearts
in praise of our Lord.
