Testimony

Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life
Issue # 231
TESTIMONY

This past Sunday, we missed our regular worship because we had to take our youngest out of town to attend a basketball camp. On our return, we went to an evening service at another local church that we visit occasionally.

They were welcoming and the music was good. The pastor stood to give his message and felt prompted by Holy Spirit to throw out his message and go in a different direction. The new direction included having some people give testimonies in answer to the question “How can we magnify God?”

With some prompting, a few people shared. A think more would have shared, but he seemed to be looking for certain things to illustrate his point and it inhibited a few people. In the end, it was a good message and a pleasant time of worship.

I was quiet and didn’t share anything, as we were only visitors. Normally, as anyone who knows me will testify, when you get me talking about God, it’s hard to get me to be quiet.

Yesterday, I can across a verse that I’ve read many times, but not really paid attention to.

If a person sins because he does not speak up when he hears a public charge to testify regarding something he has seen or learned about, he will be held responsible. Leviticus 5:1 NIV

I had always taken this verse in the context of appearing as a witness in a court of law. This time though, I read it in the light of anytime or anyplace we’re called to testify to God’s glory.

Webster’s defines testify as: “to bear witness\\to give evidence\\ to be evidence\\to be evidence of\\to affirm.” Nowhere in the definition does it limit the word to something that happens in court.

We give our testimony when we tell others about what God has done in our lives.

We can also BE EVIDENCE of what God has done in our lives through the way we live our lives. We are always witnesses, the question is are we good witnesses or bad witnesses?

You, as a believer are evidence of what God is like and who He is.

Those who have not accepted Christ give false testimony about God. For many it’s unknowingly false because they have never heard of Him, but for others it is because they have heard the truth and rejected it.

You testify about Christ with everything you say and do. Make your testimony truthful.

Until next time, may your testimony be honest as to God’s magnificence. When called to verbally testify as to who God is or what He has done, may you have the courage to step forward and do so with confidence.

God bless.

Kevin

If you have never experienced the God we are called to testify about, email me. I’ll share a few Bible verses that will explain why a personal relationship with Him is important and a prayer that will make it possible.
