Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary
life

Hidden
I sat in the shade of a big tree, watching my
son play basketball on an outdoor court. When he wasn’t playing, I sat writing
away on a couple of articles I am doing.
A piece of bark fell from one of the branches
and landed on my keyboard. I went to flick it
off and I thought it moved.
Maybe I had been in the sun too long! I went to flick it again and this
time it definitely
moved.
It obviously wasn’t a piece of bark after all. I caught it and had a good
look. It was an insect of some description camouflaged as a piece of bark,
one I had never encountered before.
Even knowing that it was an insect, unless it
chose to move, there was no way in the world I would ever have given it
a second glance. A
perfectly designed job of camouflage, it was
safely hidden by its appearance.
People are pretty good at camouflage as well. We have all sorts of things
in life that we don’t want others to know about.
We hide our thoughts and cover our tracks so
that our spouses, families, friends and
co-workers don’t know. The little lies, the
secret thoughts, the nasty habits, the downright disobedience to God.
We think we have it all covered, and in fact we may fool everyone for a
long time. Some manage to cover it up for their entire lives and no-one
ever even suspects.
We don’t fool God though.
For the word of God is living and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword, it
penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit,
joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and
attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight.
Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we
must give account.
Hebrews 4:12-13 NIV
Either we don’t know that God knows everything, or we secretly hope He doesn’t.
He does know and all will be revealed. It’s time to come clean with Him
on whatever you think you have hidden, because He already knows.
When
you find yourself thinking about something that you would want hidden from
Him, remember He provides a way out.
No temptation has seized you except what is
common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond
what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way
out so that you can stand up under it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV
Until next time, may you keep nothing hidden
from God that would allow you to be separated
from Him. May you come to terms with the freedom that is yours through Christ
and trust in His love enough to be totally honest with Him.
God bless.
