Title: What does God have to say about addictions?
by Awiusdi Darnell
All to often people get hooked on
prescription drugs
and they think its ok
because they are administered by their
physicians,
Those prescription drugs or over
the counter medications can be just as
wrong
as the drugs you buy on the street.
A drug is anything that changes
your coping
skills in anyway, be it physically, mentally
or psychological.
Today's Scripture references:
But each one is tempted when he is drawn
away by his own desires and enticed.
Then,
when desire has conceived, it gives birth to
sin and sin when
it is full grown, brings
forth death. James 1: 14-15
For you have spent enough time in the past
doing what pagans choose to
do - living in
debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies ,
carousing and
destestable idolotry. 1 Peter
4:3
There is always some incident in your life
that led you to addiction,
be it insecurity,
incest, abuse, homosexuality, immorality,
fear or
guilt. Take a look around in your
life and decide what it is that makes
you
reach for that drug of choice.
God wants all of His children to turn to Him
when the going gets tough.
He doesn't want
you to depend on a foreign subject to help
you cope,
He wants to show you that He is
all you really need to overcome your
problems and your addictions.
Gods love and grace is sufficient to meet
any need in your life. God loves
us with no
strings attached.
You cant really blame anyone else for your
addiction, even if it is the
result of an
abuse situation. You made the choice, God
didn't. Addiction
is deciding to have faith
in your own solutions instead of relying on
the Lord to help you learn to live your life
in the way that is best.
You need to break the chains of those around
you who have been part of
your addiction.
Don't continue to hang around the wrong crowd
while you
are trying to straighten your life
out.
You know if you are a child of God that if
you seek God's presence and
word and His
love, then you won't need some sort of drug
to give you
the same feeling of acceptance
or peace.
Pray for courage, for commitment
and for
the power of the Holy Spirit to be released
in your life. That
is part of your recovery
process.
God looks at those addictions and warns us
that we can't live a Christian
life and
remain in a drug induced world.
Ask yourself if there is something in your
life that you have more faith
in. Ask
yourself if you are hanging onto something
that you really need to give to God.
And last but not least, getting away from
drugs or alcohol is not easy
but when you
allow God to heal you of that addiction, you
not only turn
into a new person but you are
a wonderful example of Gods grace to those
around you.
Til Next Time.
