How to Cut A Covenant
8 STEPS IN CUTTING A BLOOD COVENANT (Part 2)
4. Make A Cut Until the Blood Flows. (My life is yours, your life is mine:
I'll protect you even unto death,
"And he said unto him; 'Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she
goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon."
Genesis 15:9
"This is My covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy
seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised."
(Genesis 17:9) Verse 10 goes on to say that the circumcision would be a token between God
and Abraham.
5. The Splitting of Animals Right Down the Middle.
"And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid
each piece one against another; but the birds divided he not.
And it came
to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking
furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying 'Unto thy seed
have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the
river Euphrates."
(Genesis 15:10, 17-18)
A smoking furnace is another word for God, Who is also called a consuming
fire. (Hebrews 12:29, Deuteronomy 4:24)
Jesus is described as a burning lamp. (Psalms 119:105, John 1:1-3)
When Abram split the animals in two and laid the two pieces against each
other, God and Jesus would walk between the pieces in a "figure 8",
which was the symbol of infinity, meaning that the covenant being made was
for eternity. It would never end.
The blood of the animals substituted the blood of those cutting the covenant.
