8 STEPS IN CUTTING A BLOOD COVENANT ( Part 3 )
6. The Pronouncing of Blessings and Cursings.
This showed the agreement of things the two covenant partners would do for
one another. ( Could this be the origin of today's modern day contracts ? )
Deuteronomy chapter 28 outlines the covenant between God and His children.
Verses 1 - 14 outline the blessings for obedience and verses 15 - 68 outline
the cursings for disobedience.
Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the
law. Check out Galatians 3:13 - 14:
" Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse
for us: for it is written, ' Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.
That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ;
that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. "
But , remember two important Biblical truths that must be mentioned here:
1. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. What you say can hurt
you!
( Proverbs 18:21 )
2. You shall give an account of yourself to God. ( Romans 14:12 ) Make sure
you will be able to give a good account of yourself . More than anything
else in the world , when I reach Heaven , I want to hear Jesus say to me;
" Well Done , Good and Faithful Servant! Enter now into the joy of the Lord!"
( Matthew 25:23 )
You determine what comes upon you! If you get out of covenant relationship
with the Lord , you can go to God with an honest , true and repentant heart(
if you know that you have been redeemed from the curse of the law
{ Galatians
3:13 - 14 } ) , and ask for forgiveness and He will remove the effects
of the curse. But remember , God knows your thoughts , so don't try to buy
a license
to sin! ( Psalms 94:11 )
Look at what Paul said in Romans chapter 6 verse 1 - 2:
" What shall we say then ? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may abound?
God forbid! How shall we , that are dead to sin , live any longer therein? "
He goes on to say that our old man is crucified in Christ. Read the whole
chapter in Romans chapter 6 to get the full picture of what Paul was saying
to us.
