Covenant Talk How to Cut A Covenant Part Three

8 STEPS IN CUTTING A BLOOD COVENANT ( Part 4 )

Jesus told Peter to forgive a brother who sinned against him " not seven times , but seventy times seven . " ( Matthew 18:21 - 22 ) That's 490 times! Do you think Jesus would not do something He told us to do? I don't think so! But , don't try to take advantage of that fact. Jesus told us several times that if we loved Him we would keep His commandments. ( John 14:15 , John 15:10 , 14 ) I would hate to know that as far as Jesus was concerned , I did not love Him because I refused to keep His commandments ! Remember the cursings of the covenant! ( Have you ever noticed that there are blessings and cursings in marriage vows? { " In sickness and in Health " , " For Better or For Worse " , " Until death do us part " }

The Blood Covenant that exists between Jesus and ourselves also applies between Christians ! Think about that the next time you have a problem arise between a brother or sister in the Lord!

7. The Setting Up Of A Memorial.

a. Set up a monument.

" Now therefore come thou , let us make a covenant , I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee . And Jacob took a stone , and set it up for a pillar { A structure of like form erected as a monument . [ Webster's Dictionary ] } "

b. Plant a tree or grove of trees.

Breaking the Covenant was an act of declaring war. ( Such as cutting down the grove of trees or the tree which had been planted as a monument to the Covenant . ) { Food for Thought : Is Arbor Day a monument to mankind's Covenant to the Earth to keep trees growing upon it? Remember , new trees are planted every Arbor Day )

c. Write the Terms of the Covenant on a tablet of stone and set that up as a Memorial.

( Is this the reason for the Ten Commandments first appearing as they did? { Deuteronomy 27:1 - 8 } )

d. The Cross of Calvary.

The Cross represents the Covenant we have with God through Jesus. Wearing it ( as on a necklace or a lapel pin ) is a witness and a memorial of that covenant. { But , don't go overboard ! }
