Title: Religion Or Relationship? Part 3
by Michael Isaacks
Lukewarm
" I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert
cold or hot.
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue
thee out of my mouth. " ( Revelation 3:15 - 16 )
" spue " is the Greek Word emeo { em-eh’-o},
which means: to vomit, vomit forth, throw up.
How about how the religious person treats
people? Let's look at what James said:
" My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory,
with respect of persons.
For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring,in goodly apparel,
and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him,
Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or
sit here under my footstool:
Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
"
( James 2:1 - 4 )
Let's look at this a minute. First of all, James was talking to Christians.
How do we know this? Because he said; " Brethren. "( Please remember that
in James' day " gay " meant something totally different than it does now.
) If people will treat other people this way in church, they will treat
them that way everywhere else. Many churches are guilty of this. Alot of
churches will not allow their members to wear shorts to church. While I
agree with this because it disrespects the house of the Lord in my opinion,
I don't get all bent out of shape if someone does wear shorts to church.
I treat them the same, no matter what they wear. Just because I choose not
to wear shorts to church doesn't mean someone else would feel uncomfortable
doing so. It's all about preferences.
