Title: Religion Or Relationship? Part 4
by Michael Isaacks
Stopping To Help In A Time Of Need
How about another instance in how religious people treat others? Let's look
at what Jesus said in Luke 10:30 - 37:
And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho,
and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment,
and wounded
him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
And by chance there came down a certain priest that way:and when he saw
him, he passed by on the other side.
And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him,
and passed by on the other side.
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he
saw him, he had compassion on him,And went to him, and bound up his wounds,
pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to
an inn, and took care of him.
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them
to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him;
and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell
among the thieves?
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go,
and do thou likewise. "
So, who helped the man? Not the priest! Not the Levite! But this is not
the end of the story! What about the benefits of having a relationship
with Christ? Let's take a look at them!
1. Everlasting Life:
" For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
"
( John 3:16 )
" For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through
Jesus Christ our Lord. "
( Romans 6:23 )
2. You Become A New Creature ( or Creation ):
" Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are
passed away; behold, all things are become new. "
( 2 Corinthians 5:17 )
3. You Have A Ministry:
" And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus
Christ,
and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; "
( 2 Corinthians 5:18 )
