Title: Drinking Wine: What Does The Bible Say? Part 3
by Michael Isaacks
Should Priests Be Allowed to Drink?
And the Lord spake unto Aaron, saying,
Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy
sons with thee, when
ye go into the tabernacle
of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute
for ever throughout your generations:
And that ye may put difference between holy and
unholy, and between unclean
and clean;
( Leviticus 10:8 - 10 )
It should be obvious that Aaron was a priest.
Everyone would agree even without this verse
that priests ( or preachers ) should not drink
alcohol. But. Let's go on……
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for
princes strong drink:
Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of
the afflicted.
Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those
that be of heavy hearts.
Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
( Proverbs 31:4 - 7 )
But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out
of the way; the priest
and the prophet have erred through strong drink,
they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way
through strong drink;
they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.
( Isaiah 28:7 )
Okay, we've thoroughly established that God does not want priests to drink,
right?
Now, let's look at Revelation 1:5 - 6:
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten
of the dead, and the prince
of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our
sins in his own blood,
And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory
and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Did you read that? If you have made Jesus your Lord and Savior, you are
a
king and a priest! So, with this revelation, we know that this restriction
from
alcohol placed by God upon His priests also applies to you and I!
