Title
The Awesome wonders of God-2
by David Pitman
**READ ISAIAH 40:15-31** (read the passage and the
continue on with this
reading....)
Isaiah furthers his description of God in verses 15 and 17 by comparing
Him
to all the nations in the world. "Surely the nations are like a drop in
a
bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales; he weighs the islands as
though they were fine dust. Before him all the nations are as nothing; they
are regarded by him as worthless and less than nothing." Take all the most
renowned kings and rulers of the world along with their riches, splendor,
wealth, fame, fortune, and glory. Try to compare this to our God and they
all fail miserably. They "are like a drop in a bucket", "as dust on the
scales", neither of which are worth any value or even regarded of being
the
least bit significant, totally unworthy of mention. God brought all these
rulers out of nothing and has the power to easily return them to nothing
as
He so pleases without exerting the least bit of effort (see verses 23 and
24). Does your view of God portray His mightiness and splendor? We sometimes
become so wrapped up in the things of this world and forget that it all
completely falls short of the resources God has. Does your view of God allow
you to trust Him with your needs since you know He has considerably more
than we can even dream and is willing to meet our needs with His wealth?
People consumed with pursuing the things of this world are chasing dirt
compared to what God has to offer.
Skipping down to verse 26, Isaiah shows God's authority by telling us of
His
creative power. "Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all
these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each
by
name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is
missing." When we look into space at all the complexions and its vastness,
it boggles our mind. God, however, knows each and every star by name and
causes each one to act as He wishes! This verse connotes the idea of a
General drawing out the squadrons and battalions of his army and having
a
certain position, function, and plan for each of their services to him
(Matthew Henry's Commentary). Furthermore, not one of these stars is
missing! God created the perfect number of stars. God knows each one of
them. They are all accounted for with Him while we, here on this tiny earth,
cannot even comprehend the infinite number of stars that exist out in that
vast space. With a God like this having absolute control over the universe
and wanting to be personally involved in our lives, do you personally make
use of this privilege and allow Him to control your life? Or, has the
supremacy of our Lord become just another fact from a textbook, something
you take for granted, and not something that literally transforms you life?
If God knows each of the stars by name, which are usually nothing more than
glowing balls of gas, how much more does He know your name personally? How
much more does He watch you and your life just as carefully, wanting
desperately for you to let Him in.
Yesterday you wrote in your Spiritual Journal about areas in your life that
are not completely sold out to Christ, areas you're maybe holding back a
little not wanting to give over 100% to the Lord. Take those areas and now
apply to them your fuller understanding of who God is. How does
understanding a little more of what God is like now impact how you handle
those areas of your life and what you do with them? Record your thoughts
in
your Spiritual Journal and then take time to discuss them with the Lord.
