Finances 34
Ps 112:1-10 "Everyone praise the LORD. Blessed is the man that
fears the LORD, who delights greatly in His commandments. His seed shall
be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth
and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endures for ever.
To the upright there arises light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full
of compassion, and righteous. A good man shows favor, and lends: he will
guide his affairs with discretion (good judgment; sounds like Josh 1:8 -
deal wisely in all the affairs of life; we need to know what God says about
every situation in life.)". Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous
shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings:
his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. His heart is established, he shall
not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies. He has dispersed,
he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures for ever; his horn shall
be exalted with honor. The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall
gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish".
Wow! God's desire is for us to be prosperous. Notice, however, the qualifications
of this blessed saint: fears and defers to God; delights in the Word; ministers
grace (Eph 4:29); is compassionate; wears his inheritance of righteousness
(Eph 6:14, Isa 54:17); shows favor; lends time, energy and funds to others;
is discrete in showing good judgment in the affairs of life; refuses to
fear; has a fixed, established heart on the Lord; is a combatant in spiritual
warfare; gives alms. This is quite a list. All these graces are available
to the believer (2Pet 1:3). If you are overwhelmed by this list, don't be.
His Word is lamp unto our feet", like a flashlight, not a beacon into eternity:
God is asking simply to take the immediate next step. Pondering the steps
too far ahead causes timidity and hopelessness.
The trouble with borrowing money is that it's controlled by the worlds system.
You also become the servant of the lender (Pr 22:7). It is not a sin to
borrow money. IF that were so then God causes people to sin because He said
as part of the blessings of Abraham that the Jews would lend to other nations
(Deut 28:12). Borrowing money is not God's best. God's best is to have so
much that you can give it away and not feel the strain. There are also spiritual
problems with borrowing money. Your name is subordinated to the lenders
name. Our name is suppose to be the same as our nature. The lender becomes
our supplier, not God.
The prime interest rate should have no effect on
our thinking about where to get money when borrowing. When we're in the
kingdom of God, everything He has is ours. He has already given us His kingdom.
It gives Him good pleasure to give it to us (Lk 12:32). If we're going to
please Him, we're going to have to get it by faith (Heb 11:6). We are already
in His kingdom: Col 1:13b "... HAS (past tense) translated us into the kingdom
of His dear Son". You don't have to wait to heaven to be in His kingdom.
