Title: Psalm 23.5
by Dennis Reschke
Psalm 23.5
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over". Our enemies will be with
us all of the time that we are on earth. In the midst of that God has made
provision for us to overcome our enemies. Our "table" is manifold: the blood
of the Lamb - I plead His blood over myself, my family, and all my possessions
everyday: there is nothing higher or more powerful then our Savior's blood;
when we invoke His blood we have brought the mightiest weapon on the scene.
Our table also includes our testimony (Rev 12:11). The Word (rhema) of God
spoken in faith allows the Holy Spirit (Jer 1:12) and the angels (Ps 103:20)
license to perform on our behalf. Another provision on our table is selflessness.
Rev 12:11 says, "And they overcame him (satan) by the blood of the Lamb,
and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto
the death". When we consider our life as forfeit, when we see ourselves
as dead (Rom 6:6,7), satan cannot attack something that is dead. Have you
ever seen a dead body move or react to the environment? When we are determined
to live or die on the Word of God, things happen.
The anointing of oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit in our lives. When we
are born again we receive Him in our hearts. When we are filled to overflowing
we experience the so-called baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence
of speaking in tongues. Some of you do not believe in this. I challenge
you to read the book of Acts with the question in mind, is there a subsequent
experience to the new birth? I believe you will see there was in the lives
of the saints of that day. And I can testify that this same experience is
available today, as can millions of other believers on the planet. This
isn't something that will keep you out of heaven, rather an additional weapon
that brings additional power in your life.
As we are faithful in what
we have, God gives us more - our cup runs over. Matt 25:29 says, "For everyone
who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does
not have, even what he has will be taken from him." Luke 19:17 "And He said
to him, Well, you good servant: because you have been faithful in a very
little, have you authority over ten cities." We must be faithful in the
little things before God gives us weightier responsibilities. We must be
faithful in the natural things before God can entrust us with spiritual:
"If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will
commit to your trust the true riches?" (also 1Cor 15:46). First we need
to be faithful in someone elses ministry before God gives us our own: Luke
16:12 "And if you have not been faithful in that which is another man's,
who shall give you that which is your own?"
