Title: Ribbons of Gold and Red
by Diann Messer
Ribbons of Gold and Red
I came to you wrapped up in pretty
ribbons of gold and red
They sparkled with light as they curled about in haphazard array
You took one look at my tiny package and just shook your head
"Those curly, unruly ribbons look too messy; this is how they should lay."
You pulled and tugged and worked and planned out all my
ways
You plotted, planned and fashioned for me all my days
The curly, sparkly
brightly shining ribbons in your hand so limply lay
Until my red faded into pastel pink, my gold became a deathly shade of gray.
Within your controlling grasp as you labored all the more
You struggled with the freedom that my aching soul longed for
To break away from fingers always seeking to reform my very form
Til the day arrived when your faded ribboned package simply could not bear
your scorn
Now Someone else has placed His hands upon my strings of life
His touch frees my very soul from stifling, suffocating strife
He restores my ribbons red and gold their sparkle and their light
He hides me from the darkness and restores my soul to life
