Title: Sound of Silence
by Diann Messer

Sound of Silence
I know too well the heaviness of heart
Caused by lack of language
When someone should speak
But does not.
The thud that is heard in the human soul
The sound of silence takes its toll.
Tears, the language of the heart.
Tears cried, but never dried
By hands that could have
But did not.
Words that should have been
Spoken with great care
Could have, were not there,
No, were not.
The thud that is heard in the
human soul
The sound of silence takes its toll.
Silence speaks more profoundly
Than many words poured out.
With heavy footsteps, proudly,
Silence stalks across the soul.
Silence leaves within its wake
Hollow eyes and empty ache
Could have, should have,
But did not.
