Title: Unthinkable
by Diann Messer

Unthinkable
Unthinkable injustice, more than mind can comprehend.
Unthinkable in every aspect, unthinkable without end.
Deep within the soul of man a need begins to sprout;
Somewhere from within the heart, justice starts to shout.
The need to measure and to weigh, the need for justice now prevails;
Grain by grain of sand is placed upon those waiting scales.
Pound for pound, ounce for ounce, eye for eye and tooth
Measured, meted, sifted out, searching for the truth.
Unthinkable injustice, more than mind can comprehend.
Unthinkable in every aspect, unthinkable without end.
Justice soon demands its due and then becomes dire need.
Upon my knees I fall once more, “Holy Spirit, intercede!”
“Break apart this thing that seeks to dwell within my breast,
Break this hardness in my heart and bring to me your rest.”
Unthinkable injustice, compared and balanced out
Against unthinkable forgiveness, unmeasured and poured out.
