I'm Going Through!

As a Christian, I've heard this statement over and over again. “I’m going through!” On the surface, it would seem to indicate a cry of victory; however, I find it to be somewhat vague.

I think we are all going through something. We are going through tests and trials. We are going through difficulties and perplexities. We are going through divorces, we are going through illnesses, and we are going through pain and sorrow. I ask you today, ‘What are you going through?’ Is there something in your own personal life that seems impossible? Is your river too wide to cross? Is the water too deep? Are you passing through a fiery trial?

God has much to say on this subject. I love this passage of scripture taken from Isaiah 43:

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

He has given us His word of promise that we will indeed be able to go through. We go through it in His strength, not our own. It is His right arm that delivers, not our own. It really is okay for us to be weak and to admit that we are unable to do this on our own. 2 Corinthians 12:9 states “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

The weaker I am in my own strength, the greater He becomes in my life.

Human beings are great runners; however, most of the time the only way out of a situation is to go through it. We like to run away from our problems or be miraculously delivered from them. It’s not much fun to face them head-on and endure to the end. Much of scripture indicates that we are called to endure. It is not unusual for us to go through difficulties in life. God prepared the way before us. I Peter 4:12 “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened you…”

Yes, you and I are going through. We are always going through something. Are you facing a crisis that feels like it will never end? Do you feel as if the floodwaters are so deep that you will never be able to make it through to the other side? Deuteronomy 33:27 hold the answer for all of us. “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms…”

“Going through” also indicates finishing what we have started. We don’t quit before the end of the race. We don’t faint along the way. We continue to draw from His strength and keep pressing onward. It may not be easy, but we know that He is there with us, walking through it with us. Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart (faint not).”

I’m going through trials and difficulties today and I trust you are also!
