DevotionalTitle: Depend on Him (weekend edition) by David George Depend on HimRome didn’t create a big empire by having motivational seminars. They did it by killing those who opposed them. That’s terrible, but, sorry to say, even churches have been known to shoot their walking wounded -- verbally and psychologically. I hope that your church is a hospital for saints instead of a battlefield.Have you ever been so psychologically hurt that you just wanted to cry out and scream? It can be devastating, but it’s o.k. to cry out for help. I know someone who is willing to listen. Check out Isaiah 33:2 (niv), “O Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in times of distress.” Don’t you love that last sentence -- “be our strength every morning,” especially today, Lord -- it may be a tough one, and then be our “salvation in times of distress.” Sometimes we just have to deal with distress that isn’t our own making, and there is no one else willing to listen but the Lord. Reflect on your life and then imagine having to deal with stress or distress without Him in your life. Depend on Him today.
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
