DevotionalTitle: Start Unwrapping by David George Start UnwrappingIf Jesus were to do His same ministry again in 2001, He would be charged by the AMA of practicing medicine without a license, accused by the NEA for teaching without a certificate and arrested by OSHA for walking on water without a life jacket. The fact that He helped people wouldn’t matter. On Friday afternoon I saw an interesting sight. In my neighbor’s yard there were three vultures huddled around an overturned turtle. They knew there was a meal in there somewhere, but they didn’t know how to unwrap it. 20 minutes later, I came by again. Two of the vultures gave up, but one was still standing there trying to figure out how to get his meal. Sometimes it’s like that with our Bibles. We know there is a certain verse in there somewhere that we want, but we can’t find it. The best resource I have found for finding verses is www.crosswalk.com . It is an amazing Bible study fountain of knowledge. I use it all the time, and once you discover it, so will you. It has many more Bible study resources than just a fabulous concordance. The Bible contains such wonderful spiritual food, but oftentimes we don’t know how to unwrap it. Don’t always depend on or trust others to unwrap it for you -- do your own study, and the tools from Crosswalk will be a big help. Example: I want the verse that says “search the Scripture”, so I merely typed in search, and voila, there it was listed along with 45 other verses using that word. HOWEVER, all the verses were printed out so I didn’t have to page through and look up all of them. The verse I wanted is John 5:39 (nlt)., where Jesus says, “You search the Scriptures because you believe they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!” Aah, that’s the secret -- the Scriptures point us to Jesus Christ which is exactly why we should study them. It’s great!! Start unwrapping.
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
