Devotionalby David George Some places are having heavy rains and flooding while in other places the land is so dry and hard that you need a Black & Decker Drill to plant your corn seed. Sometimes our Christian life is like that. We have highs and lows. At times our heart is so hard that it would seem that God needs a B&D drill to get our attention, and believe me, that won’t be a boring experience. If your Christian walk needs emotional highs to keep you going, be aware that you may have a shallow relationship with God. A really solid walk with God does not need emotional peaks to make your Christian life meaningful. Jesus said in Matt 7:24 (nlt), “Anyone who listens to my teaching and obeys me is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.” If you want a solid faith like that, build your faith on a foundation of trusting and obeying. The old hymn says it well, “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey” -- all week long!
PARTNER PROFILE In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
