DevotionalTitle: It Needs To Be Asked by David George It Needs To Be AskedIt is reported that there is a new tooth paste that has the flavor of shoe polish. It is favored by those who are always putting their foot in their mouth. As one of the network reporters interviewed a rescue worker at the World Trade Center, the worker said, “We are bitten but not beaten.” One question constantly asked is, "Why did God allow this?" God gave us a free will to decide to do good or evil. Some people choose terrible evil, and it was man's decision to do this heinous deed. So why do we blame it on God? If He took away man's free will, we would be like puppets with no self determination. Why are we always so willing to blame God when something bad happens, and then we totally take the credit when something good happens? We just don’t think, and that includes Christians -- we just don’t think! Another cliche that comes out of all this is that we are repeatedly asked to pray for those killed in this terrible tragedy. I know that those who say that mean well, and I’m sorry folks, but it is too late to pray for them -- their fate has been sealed. Pray for their survivors that they may turn to God in their time of crisis and find faith in Jesus Christ. In Heb. 9:27 (niv) we read, “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment...” If you are the next victim of a terrorist, are you ready to face that judgment? It’s a terribly sobering question, but it needs to be asked.
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
