DevotionalTitle: Give Him a Chance by David George Give Him a ChanceLearn from the mistakes of others. You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself, although some have tried.Where do you go for a lift when you are “down?” Some go shopping, some buy shoes, some, tragically, go to alcohol, some confide in a friend. You may have your own special formula. The Christian should be singing, “Where could I go but to the Lord.” Isn’t it odd that what should be our first solution is often our last one. Maybe it’s because we are human and do the human thing -- stew and fret. I know it sounds like a cliche and panacea, but another song says, “Take it to the Lord and leave it there.” That’s good advice but so very hard to follow. We would rather carry around our burdens and grudges, feeding them with our pouting. Sometimes we act like we are enjoying our pitty party. To get “down” is normal. To stay there is counter-productive and should not be in the plan of the Christian. We tend to be just like it spoke of the ancient Israelites in Psalm 78:11 (niv), “They forgot what He had done, the wonders He had shown them.” We forget how God lifted us in the past, and sometimes we doubt that He can do it again. He can! Give Him a chance.
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
