Devotionalby David George Some folks don’t recognize opportunity because it comes dressed in work clothes. We have a friend who is involved full-time in working on college campuses to both introduce students to Jesus Christ and then to disciple them into Christian growth. She is using her Christian faith to impact the lives of others. If we aren’t doing the same, then we have lost sight of an important thrust of being a Christian -- to improve the lives of others in a positive way. A Christian who is all wrapped up in his own joy and his own euphoric experiences makes a pretty small package. I see evidence of today’s “me” philosophy invading the church -- it’s what can the church do for me to make me feel good. If you really want to feel good, discover the joy of doing something positive to help the life of someone else. As Christ was talking about feeding the hungry and thirsty and providing clothing for the needy, he said (Matt 25:40 [nlt] ). “...when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me.” Today, let’s serve Christ by serving, not ourselves, but others. It’s the Christian thing to do.
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
