Devotionalby David George A pastor talked to a group of pre-schoolers about being good and going to heaven. At the end of his talk, the Pastor asked, : “Where do you want to go?” The little voiced shouted, “Heaven.” Then the Pastor asked, “What must you do to get there?” A loud chorus said, “Be dead.” 1 Cor. 2:9 (niv) is a quote from Isaiah and is usually thought of as a description of what awaits us after we die and are safely in Heaven, and I’m sure the verse describes that: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” However, we usually fail to read verse 10, which follows and is part of the same phrase, “but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.” And those things are revealed in his Word -- another good reason for perusing its pages. What God has prepared for those who love him is not just future -- it is here and now! Think of your life without Christ and then compare it to what you have in him NOW! I’ve said it before, I don’t know how I would handle facing the rest of my life with a stroke impaired body if I didn’t have the Joy of Christ in my life. True, no non-Christian eye has seen nor ear heard or comprehends what God has given to us who serve Christ. They just don’t understand. Enjoy your walk with him today -- you are special.
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
