Title: Do the Same
 by David George

Do the Same

If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled? Can vegetarians eat animal crackers? Folks, these are deep things to ponder.

I learned woodworking from a valued uncle. As a lad just starting in working with wood, I was given this valuable advice from him: “No matter how long you work with power tools, always operate them a little bit scared.” I’ve never forgotten that, and it paid off. I have been a life-long woodworker and still have all ten fingers unscathed. Thanks, Wilmer (he’s now with our Lord).

Fortunately, my doctor gave me some medication that will allow us to make the trip to PA for a granddaughter’s wedding. I’m grateful. As we think about the trip, I will use Uncle Wilmer’s valuable advice and apply it to driving -- always drive a little scared. That would be good advice for you, as well.

That same advice can be applied to our Christian walk -- always live the Christian life a little bit scared. Why? It keeps us alert! Always be alert to the fact the we represent Jesus Christ to the world around us. We should have enough concern that we are just a little bit scared that we will not represent Him faithfully, and that will keep us on our toes.

Paul gave this advice to Timothy in 2 Tim. 3:14 (nlt), “but you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught.” Then you can also say with Paul (2 Tim. 4:7), “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.” I believe Paul walked the Christian life a little bit scared -- He was always alert to the responsi- bility of faithfully serving the Lord. We can do the same.
