Devotionalby David George I suppose you know that the shortest length of time ever measured is the change of the light and the toot of the horn behind you. What do you suppose would happen to a race driver who only put on a burst of speed every seventh lap? He certainly wouldn’t win the race, would he? Transpose that situation to living the Christian faith. If we depend on a spurt of spiritual enthusiasm once a week to propel us through life as a victorious Christian, the victorious part will be in doubt. It takes consistent day by day pedal-to-the-metal Christian dedication to live a life of victory through Christ. The writer of Hebrews penned this in chapter 2, vs. 1 (nlt): “So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.” We need to be persistent in our search for the truth of God’s Word because it is easy to drift away from it. From one Sunday to the next, it is hard to remember what you learned about God. We need spiritual pit stops in between to keep our devotion fresh.
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
