Devotionalby David George Sign in front of a funeral home: “Drive carefully -- we’ll wait.” Here in Florida we face two situations that emphasize the importance of friends. 1) Some friends are Snowbirds -- they go North for the summer and it gets a bit lonely here. 2) There are so many seniors that one by one your friends pass on. Friends come and go, but a real friend hangs in, no matter what. I hope you have plenty of that variety of friends. Young people tend to have “goodtime” friends, and they seem to change friends as often as a cat cleans itself. We need friends who last. One advantage of being in a good church is that it is a great place for developing friendships. When we analize it, almost all of our FL friends are in the church, and that’s nice. Why not have friends in a community of Christians who share the same love for Christ? These friends are a wonderful support team. Prov. 17:17 (nlt) says, “A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need,” yes, even born-again brothers should be there to help each other. Let’s be that kind of friend.
PARTNER PROFILE In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
