DevotionalTitle: Today's Goal by David George Today's GoalI scanned and e-mailed my picture to a friend and remarked that I was sorry, but I didn’t think the picture did me justice. They sent a reply saying, “You don’t need justice, you need mercy!” Next time, I’ll send them your picture. Was it Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) who said, “We should live so that when we die, even the undertaker will be sorry.” Peter put the correct spin on that thought when he wrote this in I Peter 2:12, “Live such good lives among the pagans (non-Christians) that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” -- in other words, by seeing your good deeds they may believe in Christ, too, and thereby be ready for “the day He visits us” and takes us home. Conversely, non-Christians may “accuse us of doing wrong” simply because of what we believe about doing what is right. To put it another way, our life style may be an offense to them simply because it appears in conflict with theirs and, therefore, it convicts them. Our goal today is to please Christ and leave the others for Him to deal with. Have a stellar day.
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
