DevotionalTitle: Grace for Granted? by David George Grace for Granted?Unless you can create the whole universe in just 5 days (one less than God), perhaps giving advice to God isn’t such a good idea.Yesterday, our breakfast was rudely interrupted right in the middle of making coffee. A squirrel got across the terminals on the top of our power transformer -- instant fried squirrel. All of a sudden we realized that everything we needed or wanted to do was dependent on electric. Fortunately, our power company responded quickly and had us up and cooking in less than an hour. We are like that with the power of God. We take His power, love and grace for granted all the time and don’t realize how dependent we are until we get in a situation where we really need Him. Unlike the Florida Power Co., God’s power doesn’t get cut off. This God who gets taken for granted doesn’t seem to get His feelings hurt, and He is always right there for us when we finally wake up and realize how badly we need Him. Psalm 138:3 (nlt) gives us this encouragement: “When I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me the strength I need.” Yes! Thank you, Lord. May we never treat your grace casually.
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
