Devotionalby David George You know you’re in trouble when your secretary tells you the FBI is on line one, the DA is on line 2, Dan Rather is on line 3 and your accountant is calling from Switzerland. Sometimes you may feel like you have been “through the mill,” and you don’t see how you can take any more. You have “trouble, trouble, trouble right here in River City.” You feel like you’ve reached your limit and want to just quit and give up. Maybe that feeling is about church work you are doing -- that no one appreciates your efforts. Suppose Paul had quit long before he wrote the great books that we have in the Bible. Just suppose, and think how much smaller our New Testament would be. But, thankfully, he didn’t quit. In his book of 2 Cor. 4:8 & 9 (nlt), he wrote these encouraging words: “We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed and broken. We are perplexed, but we don’t give up and quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going.” Maybe you need to get up again and keep going. Our attitude needs to be -- “Hang tough.” Remember, you and God make quite a team. He’s depending on you, so don’t give up!
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
