DevotionalTitle: Holy Living by David George Holy LivingFrom a collection of medical record goofs, we have this statement:“She was numb from the toes down.” Well, I would think that is a lot better than the other direction. In response to a reader’s inquiry, I wrote, “The New Age thought of ‘me first’ has even crept into the church as evidenced by a decline in moral attitudes.” Many of our church services seem driven by a “make me feel good” philosophy. I don’t hear much anymore about holy living. Of course, holy living should make us feel really good. You may ask, “What is your definition of holy living?” Here is my homemade version: I believe that holy living is conducting our actions each day in a manner that is sensitive to the requirements set down by God in His word. Unfortunately, most of our lives are so hectic that we don’t take time to search out those requirements. Consequently, we may unwittingly be numb from the heart up when it comes to holy living. Tragic! May Paul’s admonition in Col. 1:10 (niv) be our constant goal: “...that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way; bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.” Read it again -- that is holy living!
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
