Devotionalby David George You’ve heard the expression, “His bark is worse than his bite.” Try telling that to a mailman with teeth marks on his legs. We usually go to a Post Office that is three miles farther than our local one. Reason -- service! It’s a small rural Post Office, and the two ladies than run it are extremely courteous and go out of their way to be helpful. They exhibit a commitment to serving others that should be an example for all of us. They are genuinely nice people. That’s what the world so desperately needs -- genuinely nice people, and Christians should be showing the way. Learn a lesson from the dogs. Hardly anyone can resist the friendly dog with a wagging tail, but one that shows its teeth is easy to resist. People are the same way -- some growl while others grin. Which end of the dog are we -- teeth or wagging tail? When Jacob offered gifts to Esau in Gen. 33:10 (nlt), he said, “...what a relief it is to see your friendly smile. It is like seeing the smile of God.” WOW, I wish they could say that about me. How about you?
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
