Devotionalby David George "Today at the drugstore, the clerk was a gent. From my purchase this chap took off 10 percent. I asked for the cause of a lesser amount; and he answered, 'Because of the Seniors Discount.'" Isn't it disgusting when they look at you and automatically give the senior discount? They could at least humor us by asking! Some of us would be considered senior citizens while others of you are in your teens. Whaterever our rung in this ladder of life, we need to keep climbing, striving, yearning and planning. When you give up dreaming, you accelerate the aging process. Keep dreaming! I just asked one of our granddaughters, “What are your goals?” I’ll ask you the same, regardless of your age, “what are your goals?” If you don’t have any, don’t delay another minute -- start dreaming. I think one of the saddest verses in the Bible is Job 6:11 (nlt) -- “But I do not have the strength to endure. I do not have a goal that encourages me to carry on.” That’s pretty desperate, and I hope you will never allow yourself to get into that state. Even if you are 90, dream as though you were 19. If you aim for nothing, you’ll probably hit it.
PARTNER PROFILE In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
