Title: Keep Pushing!

When you are up to your neck in Alligators, it’s hard to remember that your initial goal was to clear the swamp.

Yesterday we talked about goals, physical goals. Today, let’s talk about spiritual goals. God’s Word is loaded with goals and challenges like, “Be holy... for I am holy.” “Be filled with the Spirit,” “Be anxious for nothing,” etc. These are all worthy goals, although not fully attainable. Nevertheless, we must never quit striving toward those goals. We are commanded to try.

If we could actually achieve these goals we would be as sinless as Christ. If you are totally sinless, write to me and give me the name of your spouse. If the goal is reached, we would become complacent and the challenge would become dulled. When you are in a swamp and up to your neck in alligators, and someone yells, “Be anxious for nothing,” you’d be a much better person than I am if you could achieve that goal.

In Phil.3:14 (niv), God through Paul says, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” We must press on relentlessly, because someday we will reach our ultimate goal. Until then, keep pushing!
