Devotionalby David George Still no rain in our area. We got a letter from Ocala, and the stamp was pinned on -- that’s how dry it is. When I was still in high school, I sang in The Good News Quartet out of Philadelphia. One of our travels took us to sing at a Youth for Christ Rally. The dynamic leader there was a young preacher by the name of John (not his real name) . John later renounced his Christian faith and became very outspoken about it. Now in his senior years, John is apparently still agnostic . How sad -- what a wasted life and talent. He was so skilled that he could have become a mighty force for God. Don’t let that happen to you. Some of you may be going through difficult times and doubting your faith. Don’t risk going over the edge -- there may be no turning back. Dr. Percy Crawford used to say, “It’s easy to backslide, but it’s hard to slide back up again.” Please, dont risk it. Keep your faith active with prayer and reading The Word. Keep up your active associations with other Christians -- don’t isolate yourself. Read Heb. 6:4 & 5 (nlt), “For it is impossible to restore to repentance those who were once enlightened-- those who have experienced the good things of Heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come--and then turn away from God...” To misquote an old phrase, “It isn’t nice to fool with Father God!” Playing loose with God is playing with fire, literally.
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
