DevotionalTitle: Thanks for the Memoties by David George Thanks for the MemotiesAfter finishing a Sunday chicken dinner at a farm home, the minister noticed a big rooster strutting around the yard and said, “That’s a proud looking rooster.” The farmer replied, “He has reason to be proud -- one of his sons just entered the ministry.”The other day we passed a flower shop that had a window box full of terribly faded artificial flowers -- what a negative advertisement! Faded genuine plastic flowers are not a pretty sight. Faded glory is a natural part of life. Movie and singing stars come and go. It’s sad to see the glory go. When you get my age, you witness a lot of faded glory. For example, I just saw a TV news clip showing 98 year old Bob Hope in declining health and couldn’t help but remember his glory years and say “thanks for the memories.” I also say “thanks for the memories” to all those wonderful Bible teachers, preachers and musicians in my past. The glory may have faded, but the memories are as fresh as the morning dew. Then I thank God for the fabulous gift of memory. Conversely, I’m glad that God has a lousy memory when it comes to our confessed sin. Psalm 103:12 (niv), “as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” Psalm 25:7, “Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O Lord.” He surely is. Aren’t you grateful?
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
