Devotionalby David George On this Memorial Day, some of you will be nursing difficult memories because of the horrors you experienced in war. Others will have tearful memories of loved ones who made the total sacrifice and never returned from war. In both instances, “celebrate” is hardly an appropriate word for observing this day of remembrance, but remember we must, and a lot of gratitude would also be in order. Thank you, veterans! Are you in a typical church? Typical, is a church that has both Shirkers and Workers. Some are willing to work, and the rest are willing to let them. It always amazes me how many people in churches are quite content to simply be a spectator. They may come to the morning service, put a whole dollar in the plate and go home feeling that they’ve done their spiritual obeisance for another week. Friends, that is a terribly selfish attitude. Instead, we should have the positive attitude expressed in 1 Cor. 15:58, “So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and steady, always enthusiastic about the Lord’s work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is useless.” Get it? Get busy! HAVE A THANKFUL MEMORIAL DAY!
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
