Title: Miracles and Muscle
 by David George

This was found as an entry on a hospital chart: "The patient is tearful and crying constantly. She also appears to be depressed." I wonder what gave them a clue.

When Nehemiah came before the king to ask for help in rebuilding the wall, the king said (Neh. 2:2 nlt), "Why are you so sad? You aren't sick, are you? You look like a man with deep troubles." Folks, It's hard to keep what is going on deep inside of us from showing on your faces Our face is like a barometer -- people can read us. How is your barometric reading today?

Neh. 2:20 provides the answer, "...the God of Heaven will help us succeed..." You may be nursing a grumbly mood, but you don't have to if you are con- vinced that your God will help you succeed. Notice that the key word is "help" It seems like I keep telling Christians that they have to do their part. It is selfish to assume that God should do things for you that you can and should do for yourself. His ability takes over at the limits of your inability. He provides the miracle -- you provide the muscle.

In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co.
