Devotionalby David George Something you don't want to hear during surgery: "Oops, I lost my contact lens." Have you ever given any thought to the phenomenon that you can be twice as close to a mirror and still have your eyes as much in focus as without a mirror. I suppose it's because you are doubling the focal length. This means you can see yourself better in a mirror than you can in a picture of yourself at the same distance. If you want to see the real you, look at yourself in the mirror of God's Word, and do it now. If you wait to read about yourself in the obituary column, it's too late. A mirror reflects, and so does the Bible. If you really look, you can find yourself in many places in the Word. Have you ever been reading, and then said, "Wow, that describes me or my situation to a T." Along with describing a problem, God's Word usually also renders a solution. In the practical book of James 1:23 (nlt) it says, "For if you just listen and don't obey, it is like looking at yourself in the mirror but doing nothing to improve your appearance." Of what value is knowing the Word if you don't put it to practical use? Love it, live it, give it!
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
