DevotionalTitle: Some Other Time by David George Some Other TimeLife is uncertain -- eat dessert first and don’t buy green bananas. In Daniel 5:23 (nlt), we have the account of Daniel standing before King Belshazzar and boldy proclaiming this, “...you have not honored the God who gives you the breath of life and controls your destiny.” We can extract two thoughts from that: 1) We need to be bold enough to take a stand and speak up for God. 2) If we are not faithful followers of God by faith in Jesus Christ, we should be shaking in our boots. 1) Does being bold enough to speak up mean being obnoxious about it? It certainly shouldn’t, although I’ve observed people doing that. There is a brash way to take a stand and there is a tactful way. The tactful way would be preferred. Remember, not everyone shares our faith, so when we make a statement about our faith, we should want to attract them to Christ, not chase them away. 2) Life is tenuous. Not one of us knows when our time here will be terminated. For that reason alone, we should make sure that we have made proper preparations for the life to come. The wise person will come to faith in Jesus Christ. The foolish person will say “not yet -- some other time.” There may not be “some other time.”
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
