Devotionalby David George Yesterday Betty said, ”I’m going to wash our blanket on the permanent press cycle hoping it will take out the wrinkles.” I said, “Can you run me through, too, to see if it takes care of my wrinkles?” She said, “What wrinkles?” Love is blind! Don’t you wish we had a permanent press cycle for the wrinkles of life? Some days it seems like we are running over a washboard. I know that when you became a Christian you thought that was the end to your problems and all would be smooth as glass. Becoming a Christian, unfortunately, doesn’t give us a magic formula for keeping us from doing dumb things or making mistakes. Most of us are fairly adept at creating our own goofs. We do, however, have a resource for getting help and guidance. We even have a place to go for comfort when we foul up. In II Thes. 2:16 & 17, Paul says, “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.” In other words he strengthens us for everything we do or say. So -- do you need encouragement for today? Go straight to the source and ask. No big theological discussion -- just do it.
PARTNER PROFILE In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
