Devotionalby David George You can tell a man that there are 400 billion stars in the universe, and he’ll probably believe you. Tell him that a park bench has wet paint, and he’ll have to touch it to make sure. People are natural skeptics. Tell someone that the New Testament is valid scripture for a Christian, and they will readily believe you. Tell them that the Old Testament is also valid for the Christian, and they may doubt you. Paul shed some light on this when he spoke these words in Romans 15:4 (niv): “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.” “Everything that was written” at that time was the Old Testament. If it was valid for the early Christians, it is valid for us “that we might have hope.” Much of the “encouragement of the scriptures” that helps me, I find in the Old Testament. In your daily reading, don’t ignore it. God speaks to us through the entirety of his word. Read a Psalm today and let it warm your heart. Have a great day.
PARTNER PROFILE In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
