DevotionalTitle: Saturday Computer Stuff by David George Saturday Computer StuffHoaxes --Every week I get a hoax that has been forward to a long list of people. The sender simply assumes it is true and sends it without first checking it with the hoax sites -- big mistake. There are a number of sites where you can check hoaxes -- I’ll give you two: http://www.truthorfiction.com and http://urbanlegends.about.com (notice, no www for the urban site) At the urbanlegend site on the left side click on Net Hoaxes. Then scroll down and click on How to Spot an Email Hoax. Arm yourself with this information. NEVER re-forward something that was forwarded to you without first checking it with one of these two sites. The e-mail world is loaded with people who get their kicks by creating hoaxes. They get good at making it sound real by falsely quoting companies and phony info. Whenever you see the words, “forward this to everyone you know,” or words to that effect, you can be very suspicious that it is a hoax. I don’t think that a Christian should be involved in passing along false information, but many are too gullible to resist. Please don’t be one of them.
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
