DevotionalTitle: Sunday E-Share by David George Sunday E-Share“Faith is the ability to not panic” This is a quote from the motivational speaker J D Taylor. Last week was a week of panic. I must admit when my neighbor called me to turn on my TV that devastating Tuesday morning, my insides panicked. My first reaction came from the very human fear of the unknown.God brought a scripture to my mind -- ”Men ought always to pray and not faint” Luke 18:1 (kjv). I realized I had two choices here “pray “ or “faint”. I usually do the “fainting” first and when I come to ... I pray. I did begin to pray for all who were suffering, and for acquaintances who had family in the areas of destruction . (At this point they are safe but stranded for a while.) A few years ago while I was driving my four year old granddaughter on one of Detroit’s busiest expressways , a huge storm broke out. She became quiet as she sat in the very back of my van. The thunder thundered. Lightning lighted up the darkness of the day. As we went under a viaduct a big semi passed burying us under a ton of water. Visibility was zilch! From the back seat came a little voice, “granny I’m scared. “ “ Don’t be” I said , “Jesus is right here with us “ Quickly she answered, “Oh no He’s not. When Peter and those guys were sailing, and the storm came, Jesus was asleep in the back of their boat!” Shocked at the response of a four year old, and not so peaceful myself, the Lord gave me the rest of the story. “Yes” I said, “ when those guys told Him, He made the water peaceful, and they were safe.” Where did such a little girl come up with the perfect story for a very present time of trouble? I found out later it had been her Sunday School lesson the day before (Mark 4:34-41) Thanks to a faithful Sunday School Teacher! Was there any promise “Peter and those guys” could have hung on to during this storm in their lives? Look at Mark 4:35 (kjv). Before they had even sailed Jesus said, “Let us pass over to the other side.” The promise is in that statement. When Jesus said it, that is where they would be -- safe on the other side of the situation. I pray this promise for those in last weeks disaster, and those who face today’s obstacles. In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
