Sunday E-Share (guest writer)

One snowy January morning I was up at the crack of dawn putting the finishing touches on a talk I would be giving at a Retreat . The subject was the Beatitudes. I couldn't keep my mind on my work as I could almost hear the snow piling up . I stopped, and went out to shovel the snow. After finishing , I went in the house to work on my project. All of a sudden I heard the sound of a shovel scraping the cement sidewalk. I peeked through the curtain and there was the new neighbor (from another country), pushing away her snow with "my " shovel.

She was finally finished, and I went out to see where she returned my newest item. It was no where to be seen. With my heart pounding 90 mph, I quickly dialed my dear friend and prayer partner . Her advice was "go right over and get it. Some people claim whatever isn't nailed down." I was due to leave for work as I backed the car up in front of the neighbor's house for a quick get away. My heart was racing faster than the car motor. Upon reaching her porch I spotted a deep box with a piece of plastic thrown over it.

There was something sticking out of it. You guessed it... The handle of my shovel. I knocked hard on the door. It took her a few minutes to decide to open it. With little conversation, I couldn't understand her language anyway, I retrieved what was mine, and went on my way. I was next to useless at work most of the day. Now this frustration was not only eating me up inside, but it was infringing on my faithful- ness to my job. The day went on, and I kept justifying my anger. I even had coworkers cheering me on. Now I knew I was dead right.

The ride home took me by the Sears Mall. As I approached that area, God began to speak to me. I had this nagging feeling that I should stop at Sears and buy a snow shovel for the neighbor. As much as I tried to fight it off, the Holy Spirit brought to mind the Beatitude I was working on earlier that morning.... Matthew 5:7 (kjv) "Blessed are the merciful...for they shall obtain mercy" Could I possibly present these lessons with the lack of mercy so obvious in my own heart. Surely I was justified by all means, but what did God have in mind by allowing this incident? You guessed it ! I put a big red bow on her new shovel., and before she could catch me, I put it on her porch with a note that read, "This is a gift from God." Then I ran back home.

That evening she came to ask, in her broken English, "You give me new shovel?" I replied, "It is a gift from God." As she handed me a plate of her countries little specialties, she said "Thank you, I have no husband, no car, and no money buy shovel" God had opened a big door for me to be a witness....But..He literally had to "shovel " His way through the deep snow of my heart. Next week I will share with you some more blessings that have come from the Lord through this incident.

Remember to be merciful to all peoples...It is not only good for your testimony, but it helps your high blood pressure.

Dorcas
