Devotionalby David George On Friday I got new glasses. I’m amazed at how much better you look! Today I expect to get my computer back from the shop, so tomorrow’s E-Cheer should come from the usual address. Webster gives us this definition for courage: “Mental or moral strength to resist opposition, danger or hardship. It implies firmness of mind.” You can add to that a positive or a negative, depending on whether you allow yourself to be encouraged or discouraged. The choice is usually yours. If your situation requires a change in lifestyle or whatever, you can be a creator of change or do nothing and be a victim of change. You make the decision. In that decision, you can go it alone or ask for help from the ultimate caregiver -- God himself. In either case, courage is required for you to make a change for the better. You can’t give up and say, “Lord you take care of it -- I give up.” No, you need to have the courage to do your part with God’s help. Be encoraged by these words from Psalm 31: 24 (nlt), “So be strong and take courage, all you who put your hope in the Lord!” If you are a Christian, your hope is in the Lord. Therefore, your assignment for today is to be strong and take your courage from God.
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
