Devotionalby David George You’ve surely heard the joke about the baseball player who was told by a fellow player, “I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is that you’ll be a starting pitcher in Heaven. The bad news is that you start tomorrow.” You’ve heard the line before: “I have good news, and I have bad news -- which do you want first?” In this case the good/bad news is from Proverbs 10:28 (niv), but whether the good or the bad applies to you depends on the spiritual condition of your heart. Brace yourself -- here it is: “The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.” Do you have to rob a bank to be wicked. No, it’s a lot simpler than that -- just do nothing about having a relationship with Jesus Christ -- that automatically makes you wicked in God’s eyes. Joy is promised to the righteous. Those who have placed their faith for eternity in Jesus Christ are declared righteous by God and that makes you a prime candidate for the joy promised by God. Does this joy mean you are back-slapping hilarious all day long? Not at all. It means an inner serenity that comes when you know you are at peace with God. It’s that kind of joy, and God offers it to you today. Take it!
PARTNER PROFILE In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
