Title: Our Target

Our Target

Someone, with nothing better to do, has determined that the only 15 letter word that can be spelled without repeating a letter is uncopy- rightable. Now doesn’t that just bless you out of your socks?

In the past, I have done my share of public speaking (I grew up with a party line telephone). Now, it is difficult because of stroke damage.

The words used to flow like running water, but now each word requires effort, and to me they seem to tumble out like ice cubes from the ice- maker in the fridge. Others don’t seem to notice it like I do.

The miracle of email has become my surrogate speech. Through email you can’t detect my speech pattern because the surrogate covers it. Jesus Christ was the surrogate payment for our sins. His perfection covers our imperfection.

Now, we are to be His surrogate spokespersons to our world. Are we as effective in communicating His love for us as He was in covering our sins? To be honest, no. He is perfect -- we are not, even though He said in Matt. 5:48 (nlt), “But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” That is goal that we are to strive for. Although we never attain it in this life -- it should be our target. Do you remember the hymn, “O to be like Thee, blessed Redeemer.” That’s such a worthy challenge! Let’s be good surrogates. OK?
