DevotionalTitle: Thank You, Lord by David George Thank You, LordReportedly, there are five Jello flavors that were a disappointment and flopped -- celery, coffee, cola, apple and chocolate. Suppose you had invented a soft drink and called it 6-Up and then got discouraged and quit while one step away from success. Make discouragement a comma in your life, not a period.Do you ever get the double D’s? Actually there are many D’s in life -- disappointment, discouragement, and if we aren’t careful they will lead to depression unless we have spiritual discernment with dependence on God. We just made a decision that gives us the double D’s of disappointment and discouragement. For a number of months we have been looking forward to going back to PA at the end of Sept. for a granddaughter’s wedding. During the 4-1/2 years since my stroke I have been walking wrongly on my left leg, and it looks like it has finally taken its toll. My pain level in walking is such that we decided we had to cancel our trip. Needless to say, that brings the double D’s. When we get the D’s, we need a positive to neutralize the negative, and that comes from intense faith in our Lord. He knows all about it, and so we don’t fret, but we depend on Him for healing, wise doctor’s decisions and peace of mind. After the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus, we read these events in Matt. 28:8 (niv), “So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them.” He always meets us at our time of deepest need. Thank you, Lord!
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
