DevotionalTitle: THINK! by David George THINK!Several folks took exception to yesterday's E-Cheer, which is their privilege, and I respect their response. They assumed that I was saying that the WTC strike was NOT the judgment of God, which would have also been presumptuous on my part. Perhaps my wording was cloudy. I was not saying it is or it isn't the judgment of God, and THAT’S THE WHOLE POINT. If we declare with authority, as some are doing, that this is the judgment of God, then, as I said, we are being incredibly arrogant and degrading the memory of all the innocent who were lost along with their grieving relatives, because we just don't know. To emphatically declare that this is not the judgment of God would be just as arrogant. There is nothing wrong with assuming it is God's judgment and then trying to clean up our lives as a result. If believing that the act was the judgment of God, and it makes you a better Christian as a result, at least that way, something good would come out of the terrible loss of innocent lives. I'm just asking Christians to THINK! Were both World Wars or the wars that followed, the judgment of God on America? Was the bombing of the USS Cole the judgment of God on America? Was the first bombing of the WTC the judgment of God on America? Where do you start and where do you stop? The truth is that we don't know and therefore should not spout off with self-appointed authority everytime some disaster happens and indignantly declare that this is the judgment of God on America. We don't know. God’s Word is jam-packed with concrete truth about which we can preach endlessly, so let’s not take conjecture and declare it as truth. That’s exactly what the evolutionists have done. I'm just trying to get Christians to THINK. If God were to try to get Christian's attention and judge "His Children" in America today, the terrorists probably would have been led to strike some of our lukewarm churches instead of a building full of probably mostly non-Christians. I'm sure God is trying to get America to repent -- He always has and always will. "He is not willing that any should perish." I repeat -- I'm just trying to get Christians to THINK. If I caused you to do some thinking about all of this, and you are a more committed Christian than before, then I reached my goal. Dave
In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
